Stepping into college is a new chapter in your life, college shows your true color. By true color, I mean by you expressing yourself in what you plan to major in your college years. You meet new people from different areas and maybe even in a foreign country. Although college can be scary at first, but college is a fun experience. It's still not all about academics, you still have clubs you're welcome to feel the Pasadena community. You'll certainly love college from the easy to the hardest days, but at the end of the day, you learn something new that you'll soon use it in the future. Here in College 1, we are required to have the College 1 Reader book, and this book contains many information to influence in being a better person. The quote says, "If we want to strengthen our organizations, get beyond our decades of underachievement, and address the inchoate sense that something's gone wrong in our businesses, our lives, and our world, we need from Type X to Type I." This is an introduction about Type X and Type I, but it's catchy in a sense that we need a stronger change to motivate by who we are. The book states, "We can cling to a view of human motivation that is grounded more in old habits than in modern science." Stating that we choose what can motivate us, everyone has different motivation ideas, but each are unique to their works. In College 1, we read a book called Spare Parts by Joshua Davis, as he came to our school to talk about the book. He was inspired of the four students that he wrote a book dedicated to them in how they were fighting an American Dream to success. The students gained opportunity with their skills in making robotics and winning a competition against MIT. We had to do RRJ's in pages assigned and what interested me is how Oscar struggled by fear, so he went back to his childhood home in Mexico for a year. This is significant because now people are fighting for the American Dream to actually happen. only a few lucky people are able to get through. He was fighting for the American Dream since he felt fear from deportation. We had a project to work on, and so, having group work learned communication skills. I have to say, there were times that wasn't successful with communication, but at the end, we were able to communicate that connects to the project. What really matters is that we successfully finished through at a stronger note than we first began. Here in Pasadena City College, there are many quality resources you can go and use as a student. My two favorite places for resources are TLC and professor's office hours. TLC is the place that you can do your homework and get free tutoring. Students that had been in PCC with credible knowledge are here to help students that are struggling. With this, you could also be connected and ending up being friends with the tutor. They have laptops, computers, and textbooks you're allowed to use while you're at TLC, so the next time, you're stuck at school for a while, you have the TLC available to borrow supplies for a couple of hours. The professor's office hours is a great place to get one-on-one tutoring. Not only you could get one-to-one tutoring with your professor, this could also be helpful when needing future recommendations. Going to your professor's office hour gets a chance for the professor to know more about you. In the beginning of my semester, I was told that you need to follow the course list that each transfer college you plan to attend. I thought you follow the list given by assist.org and you're allowed to transfer. Until recently, you also need to finish on your General Education before allowing you to transfer. So, if your plan was to transfer in California State University of Los Angeles, and you want to finish your English class up to English 1A, think again. You need to complete to the maximum of English 1C to complete the English General Education Requirement. If you're an English major, then that's a different story in how many English classes you can go up to. See, college isn't too scary, after all, it'll be a great experience to challenge yourself. Sixteen weeks goes by quickly. Be prepare to embrace yourself in a wild ride to college.
