We meet again, marking the 8 weeks experience of Pasadena City College. So far, college is a roller coaster. I had lots of successes and failures. Transitioning from high school to college made a difference. There's more assigned tasks to do, and taking more outside time to study. College is neither easy nor hard. It's just the amount of time you put out of class to manage and succeed. In the beginning of Math 131, we had a “Mid-Assessment quiz” covering graphing functions, radical functions and rational functions. I studied a little bit everyday, went to my professor’s office hours, and had my friend tutor me in topics I still didn't understand. When it was time for the quiz, I felt prepared, but at the same time, nervous that I might forget what I learned on. The test was complicated but I finished the quiz with some doubts that I did some critical errors. A week later, I got my quiz back and I was very surprised that I was the 3rd highest test score in the class. English isn't my favorite subject when it comes to essay writings. I had struggled to writing complete, and grammatically correct sentences. In my English 100 class, we had an in-class essay to write. I had made an outline the day before the in-class essay. During the in-class essay, I felt prepared, and used my time wisely. Two weeks later, I got my essay back, and I had a C+, I was somewhat disappointed. His feedback on my essay was about misunderstanding, and grammatically incorrect sentences. He told me to continue on my hard work and write more. I knew my professor found the bright side of me. I plan to improve by going to the Writing Center and allow the tutors read over my essays for some final touches. Although, our expectations to college is to be independent, not every situations we treat handle all by ourselves. Sometimes, we need guidance in order to understand the perspective of college. As of now, I’m still asking some of my high school teachers for guidance in getting used to college.
