I decided to take a virtual field trip to the Feudal Society. This event happened during the Middle Ages. So during that time, people either struggled to live or had a “leisure” living. People lived in a gated community and having to deal with survival of the fittest, for those who had a lower status. There are many people who lives in the Feudal Society, such as the lord, king, turret, servants, merchant, vassal, and the serf. The lord manages estate in order to maintain their field and city. They also teaches young noble girls in dressmaking, weaving, embroidering, and manners that way they can be prepared with the future workforce. The most important they teach the girls is the culture they teach. Without teaching the culture, they won't be able to teach the future generations. The lord oversees the knights in training, as they are ruling over safety and such. The lord has a comfortable living condition because of their high status, they are being well treated in and outside the castle. Then there's the Turret, where they overlook for potential dangers attempting to come in the village. They do the callings to roll up their gates when there's potential dangers. There are servants around the castle serving for their lord, as their living condition isn't equivalent as the lord's. There are merchants that controls the amount of lord's stash and making profit if necessary under the lord's request. The merchants lives somewhat comfortable than the servants but not as comfortable as the lord. There are the the vassal also known as the fief, and they are the land holder. These vassal are usually knights or a person that the lord trusts the most. They are the ones who are in charge with crops giving to the lord so they will always be well fed. If the lord wasn't fed with high expectations, then the vassal has consequences. Then there are the even lower class, the serf, freedmen, and villeins. These works on the field growing crops. They also have the worst living condition as it also may jeopardize their jobs if one gets sick or dies. Life was rough with many difficulties from those that are lower status. Lower status risks their lives a lot in hopes for a better life. Why doesn't equality of status exist in the earlier years? Was there any benefits with people's ranking and their jobs? |
In this assignment, I did a virtual field trip on the Feudal Society/Manor. Before working on this virtual field trip, I somewhat had an idea with what it was. To me, I felt like this is the beginning of history when life isn't equal through status. Each status have a major part of role, some roles are less than others. Each of the citizen's roles are important in order to keep their community together and effective.
I really enjoyed this assignment the most because it was an interactive program. I'm a visual learner, and this was helpful for me to understand thoroughly to the Feudal Society. By clicking around, you see the details and what they do for a living. |
