From: Lilly Lau, Campaign Consultant Date: 26 November 2015 Re: Being a Successful Candidate Political factors are by the beliefs of the citizens in accommodating in election. People generally look towards the issues and the solutions they are wanting for. Citizens looks for a Candidate who fits in their needs. With that action, you can be a successful candidate when you realize the issues citizens wanting for a change. Although it is hard to find the issues through every person, at least understanding the majorities need is a huge accomplishment. Analysis of Campaign Videos Obama’s and Romney’s campaign video puts an aspect of pathos and ethos. Recalling their campaign videos, both candidates are focusing on credibility to rely on to the audience in what the candidates promise to change for the better society. As to that, both focuses on pathos to get the word out in inspiration story to help put the relief for some in decision for a new candidate. As to Obama, having Bill Clinton to speak in forth of of Obama’s candidacy, this boost the citizens in favor of Obama due to credibility, of Clinton’s term of presidency. Both uses specific music in the Campaign videos, Obama focuses music that reflects on hope, reflecting on how he’s ready to finish his job from what he started. As to Romney, the background music he focuses on is hope, the hope he brings is to finally get the victory in winning his campaign. Analysis of the statistics of the 2 swing states you chose Statistically speaking, the swing states puts a huge impact in candidacy in whom the candidate meets the needs of the citizen. As to this, I had chosen Florida and Ohio as the two swing states, and both statistically ties somewhat together. As Florida stands, there’s 76.5% as Whites, which means 23.5% are listed as minority. Also stating, their median income is 47,309, and 11.4% poverty in the state of Florida. This information correlates to the idea instances in wanting to cover the poverty gap, and in this case. we all want to cover the poverty gap, but sometimes, we need guidance to solutions in order to keep away from poverty. Connecting onto Ohio, the median income is 48,246, and 15.8% in poverty, this is a huge gap comparing to Florida’s poverty gap, but education wise in Ohio, at least 44.5% finished college with an AA degree, meaning that more people finished school and immediately finding a stable career. The eastern state upholds the ideal of their favor in Republican motive because it fits in their necessity in favors. Ohio stands with 83% that are White, while 17% are minorities. This correlates in how race relates to education and jobs. They are living well off with a degree or a diploma and begin with a job. Summary of the information about Obama and Romney’s media campaign from your discussion this week Overlooking at the polls, the campaign from Obama is more social based while Romney is more T.V. and newspaper based in convincing others to elect on. Like in the video, Daily Download: Obama Spent 10 Times as much on Social Media as Romney, Obama knows how important social media is and how using social media will boost up his chances of winning. The power of social media spreads faster than T.V. and newspaper advertisements alone. Therefore, he spent over 4.7 million dollars to support his campaign, (pbs.org) and his use of social media works in spread of the awareness Obama is willing for a change when he’s elected for President. As to Romney, he didn’t spend much money on social media to publicize his campaign. Therefore, by using social media, the turnout went well for Obama, and not so good for Romney. Although sometimes the internet can't be our best friend by crashed websites, or loss of connections, it still can be a bad effect like Romney had to suffer in Election Day. At that time, it was the most important date for him, the website had live statistics in who voted for him, and if he was in the case of "short votes" compared to Obama, then he could ask more supporters to fund, and have people to vote and in hopes of gaining votes more or near equivalent than Obama. In that unlucky day for Romney, he couldn't do much of the websites to call more supporters, so that was part of the small reason why Obama won via website/social media. Reflection Looking back in the Midterm Part 3 assignment, there was a lot of work done to successfully finish a good assignment. This assignment is to make a summary from what we discovered part 1 and part 2. Recalling part 1 is to research state’s census, background description, and such. While part 2 of the project is Presidential Campaign videos, analyzing videos in what the messages calls out to the voters. Therefore, part 3 is to combine everything from part 1 and part 2 to give advice for a future candidate to uphold a successful election. In this assignment, it helped me research further than what has already been given. Not all information can be found in one website, it requires you to look further than what's already been given. Working in this assignment helped me improve analyzing videos. Before, I’d assume analyzing videos are useless in the way I’d only see the basic message it’s trying to give out. Now that analyzing a video was a habit, I saw these candidate videos as an in depth message in what they’re trying to tell us. Videos are not just pretty animation or background sounds, it’s the message revealing through pathos and logos. I would change in the way that I felt like I put Political Science on the side to focus on other classes, and when weekends are near, I bring back the assignment and I feel overwhelmed by how much I have to write. I think about how many pages to write and I’m worried that I didn’t elaborate much. I need to change my habit before the final project comes; I want to balance every class I have, rather than putting one class aside to focus more on the other classes. At times, I regret having to take 6 classes, but then again, it’s all worth it when I knock down all the General Education first.
